This is it! The first week of 23 Things n'@. We're thrilled (and a bit overwhelmed) that more than 280 people signed up for the program. It's a lot of pressure, but we're looking forward to your thoughts and contributions.
For the first week's exercise, we're going to start things off nice and slow. All you need to do is spend some time reading the blog (thing #1) and visiting the related links. Be sure to check out Beth Mellor's slide show on Lifelong Learning and Resiliency and the other links we've provided. To help you get started take the following quiz to find out what kind of "learner" you are! It's only 24 questions and you can complete it in 2 minutes.
Once you've checked everything out, take a few minutes to share the results and your impressions in the comments section. To add a comment, click on the "comment" link below. We use the comments to keep track of participation; be sure to include your first name and the name of your library. Feel free to respond to others comments.

Not much of a shock to me (or others in my life!) but I am an intrapersonal learner. Coming in 2nd - verbal linguistic and 3rd - interpersonal. So I am good at self-managing, setting my own goals and meeting them. (Wow, if only that translated to my personal life!) I'm also best when learning with words, talking and stories. What's hard is that a lot of the world doesn't run this way. Therein is the challenge! Good to keep these in mind when I'm facing a difficult learning challenge. Like when I recently tried to learn the open software, Drupal on my own from a book. Needless to say it did NOT work!
ReplyDeleteTest confirmed that I am a verbal and linguistic learner. I also learn better on my own, so this is a good way for me to gain some knowledge. I thought the slides moved a bit fast as I wasn't done reading and digesting one before it moved on to the next slide.
ReplyDeleteLinda Penn Hills Library
I too am an intrapersonal learner, but I am also naturalistic and verbal linguistic. I think this is a fine mix for a librarian. I can self-manage, appreciate the flora and fauna of patrons surrounding me and I can write about it! I think my organizational skills get a little crazy sometimes. I am all about task lists and calendars, but I usually don't forget appointments. I really enjoy things better when they are planned than spontaneous, but I do not freak out when my plans are changed or don't work out as I thought. For someone so planned, I am very laid back about the outcome. I do love learning new things! I hope to learn some new things here and am always up for the challenge of straining my brain.
ReplyDeleteSuzy--Moon
Apparently I am a verbal-linguistic learner, which means that I absorb information through words both spoken and read. I suppose it makes sense that I became a librarian - now I am surronded with words.
ReplyDeleteComing in second is Naturalistic, which means I learn through observation. While I'm not really the nature type, I do learn through watching and then doing so I suppose that makes sense as well.
I had a tie for third: Musical, Interpersonal and Logical-Mathematical. The remaining modes of learning were close behind. It just goes to show that learning is accomplished many different ways and no one way should ever be discredited.

I am definately a hands-on learner--and practice is everything. The hardest for me is having to do somthing once, and then try to remember how to do it again weeks later with no practice in between. That's why I always ask for time on the front desk--repitition, repitition.
ReplyDeleteI have certainly been to the valley of chaos--who hasn't. While I am never shy about voicng opinions or strategies, I do have a fear of buttons--pressing the wrong button and watching technology implosion. Goal--blog for Whitehall's NF book group. We are also talking Tweets--
Not surprisingly I got logical/mathematical as my highest result (given that my thought processes are usually extremely logical and thought out), with musical coming in 2nd (I play the piano).
ReplyDeleteMy top learning style is logical-mathematical followed by verbal-linguistic. Not surprising for a cataloger who loves to get lost in a good book.

Hmmm. Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet. I didn't come out extremely strong or weak in anything. Kind of "flat lined." The ones I was stronger in only fit me a bit. Maybe since I'm a Geminii I do have different strengths at home than I do when I sit down in front of the kids for Storytime. As soon as the first child steps into my space, I come alive, wake up and feel better. I may be an "observer" to learn but I'm most comfortable in a large group of children, not adults.

My learning style is both interpersonal and intrapersonal followed by verbal-linguistic and naturalistic. Must admit it is true - and I always find myself torn between external and internal learning cues. The naturalistic is the way I recharge!
ReplyDeleteI am a Verbal-Linguistic Learner which makes sense because I usually ask tons of questions in order to understand something more clearly. I also tell stories in order for myself and others to understand what I'm talking about.
ReplyDeleteKelly

I'm Logic/Math followed by interpersonal. Makes a lot of sense to me as I love figuring stuff out, and if I can't figure it out I start asking questions.

Interesting that I am both a naturalistic and interpersonal learner. I love my relationships with others and the natural world, so it all falls in line. Very enlightening on why I always work in an outdoor program for the library during each session!

This was an interesting quiz. If we could get our patrons to take it, we might have a better idea how to program for them.
ReplyDeleteI'm a verbal-linguistic learner, and also scored higher on interpersonal relations. My bodily-kinesthetic score was low, as I guess I wasn't that enthusiastic about the situations the quiz offered that I measured. I definitely like to tell stories. :-) That was my favorite question.

I came out equal in Naturalistic, Interpersonal and Verbal-Linguistic. Not too surprising to me. Although I think the hard part of the quiz is separating what I would like to be and what I actually have time to be!

Very cool quiz. I scored highest on the naturalistic, followed closely by verbal-linguistic and intrapersonal learning styles. Makes sense that I would enjoy both the active learning by doing style, while also being heavily influenced by words and introspection.
ReplyDeleteInteresting quiz. No surprise to me that my

I scored highest with verbal-linguistic, followed closely by intrapersonal. Makes total sense - I (stubbornly) prefer figure things out for myself by reading. Maybe this will help to boost my interpersonal learning skills. :)

I scored high in inter- and intrapersonal and verbal-linguistic, which everyone who's ever been at a meeting with me can confirm haha.

It's a good thing that I am an interpersonal learner because I had to ask somone how to find the quiz. My purple"quiz" faded to grey before I clicked on it. My second was verbal-linguistic so I guess I am in the right business. It would be no surprise to anyone who has ever heard me try to sing that musical was my worst. Very insightful quiz! Joyce, Baldwin
ReplyDeleteI'm very surprised by my results. I never considered myself a "verbal-linguistic" learner in the past, but since a majority of my job involves answering computer questions for patrons, I guess I’m putting those skills to good use now!

Thanks for putting this program together.
ReplyDeleteI scored highest in Naturalistic (which I never considered as my learning style, I just dig the outdoors) and Verbal-Linguistic (that made sense).

Not surprised at my results. Great idea though!
ReplyDeleteBetsey/Wilkinsburg
The quiz was interesting. My results were all over the place, a little of this a little of that.
ReplyDeleteLinda/Wilkinsburg
Wow - we're only halfway through the first day, and look how many comments are up already! Way to go, early adopters! It's really neat to read everybody's different styles - wish we could comment on all the comments, especially since we have seem to have a bunch of musicians - perhaps a countywide library band is in order?
ReplyDeleteI scored highest on intrapersonal, with verbal/written right behind. This does not surprise me, as I am kind of shy about getting to know people/working in groups, and usually express myself better in writing than in person, at least until I've hung around with the folks in question about 30 times. So, I'm looking forward to having 279 penpals! ;)
LAV
I like the quiz too! I seem to have a lot learning styles. My strongest score was in Musical, followed by Verbal-linguistic. I had two ties after this, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal were only one point apart, and I tied exactly on Naturalistic and Bodily-kinesthetic. The other two scores were below 50 percent.
ReplyDeleteKay

My strongest scores were in Intrapersonal (69) and Verbal Linguistic (67). I am not surprised by this. I find that I learn best being reflective and working by myself. I learn more from the written word than the spoken word, however. Despite this, I enjoy communicating with others.

I scored highest as a Naturalistic Learner (not surprising as every aptitude test I ever took thought I should be a forest ranger), but as someone else said, I never thought of it as a learning style. I’ll need to think about that for awhile. Logical-mathematical and Intrapersonal learning styles followed. They fit. I’m looking forward to the “23 things” series. It sounded so good back when Charlotte-Mecklenberg started it, but there was no time! There still isn’t, but now I need to just do it. Thanks for offering it.

I scored highest on verbal/linguistic and logical/mathematical, which makes sense to me (although I am a bit math-challenged, I have a logical and scientific mind). I was surprised that I got only 42 on visual/spatial, because I find that I respond to seeing something written as well as said, especially when I've learned other languages.

Thank you for all the great comments. By the time this is all said and done we'll have learned a lot about each other.
ReplyDeleteAs for the quiz results, I scored highest in Logical/Mathmatical and Interpersonal. (Not surprised.)
My highest score was a tie between Naturalistic and Verbal-Linguistic. Yes, I do talk to my plants. Next highest was logical-mathematical. I'm definately sending that score to Mr Zemanski my 8th grade Algebra teacher, who will drop dead (if he's not already).
ReplyDeletePatte
I got a late start since I don't start work until 1:00 PM on Mondays, so there were many comments to read already. The quiz was interesting. My highest score was Musical, followed by Logical/Mathematical--don't know how this will affect my absorbing the information included in 23 things...

I think the quiz was kind of subjective - I don't know if the results actually mean anything at all...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't suprised to see that I scored highest on Interpersonal. Practically everyone I know comes to me to help sort out their problems. I guess that makes sense.

My highest score was Naturalistic. I agree with some of the previous posts that it's not something you'd generally think of as a "learning style." Yes, I'm interested in nature and I love animals, but I honestly can't remember ever trying to "imagine the new material as an ecosystem" to figure it out. My next highest scores of Verbal-Linguistic and Intrapersonal seem to be more accurate in regards to how I personally learn.

Not surprising that most of our library staff scored high on the intrapersonal scale including myself. I always tell my classes that we each learn in a different way be it listening, reading or doing and ask them to think about how they learn in order to master the computer.

Not surprisingly, I am mostly a linguistic/verbal learner with a strong intrapersonal and interperson. Seemingly weird-- although not really since I'm pretty aware of how I learn-- I'm also a bodily kinesthetic learner. It seems counterintuituve because I'm not very physically oriented. Drop dead last is visual-spatial, again, no surprise since I'm directionally challenged and would get lost making my way out of a paper bag. What always works best for me is a demonstration, detailed instructions and someone close by to consult with until a skill becomes second nature. I can learn pretty fast that way. Lets see if 23 Things will work!
ReplyDeleteinterpersonal and musical...what a shock!!
ReplyDeletelogical mathematical, closely followed by verbal linguistic.
ReplyDeletethough if there was a result that just said "you enjoy online quizzes with radio buttons," that would probably be most accurate.

My scores were down the middle, well except for the Bodily-kinesthetic,in which I scored a 17 - probably becasue I responded that I hate playing sports. You all don't want me on any softball team!
ReplyDeleteAs anyone who has ever worked with me for any length of time can attest, I burst into song at the drop of a hat. Almost anything that anyone says in front me can make me sing an existing song, an existing song with adapted lyrics, or a song with my own words *and* melody (I'd have to confess that's the absolute worst for those within hearing distance). Now when people who don't know me well get wide-eyed when beholding the spectacle, I'll just explain that I'm a musical learner!

I am a Libra so I was doomed even before I took this quiz. Although fun and informative, I swing back and forth trying to find the answer that best fits me. No surprise I scored highest in interpersonal. Thanks Beth for your slide show. It made me aware of areas in my life where I practice resiliency and areas where there is need for improvement.
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed this kind of quiz.

I always have trouble with these quizes--I tend to chose the middle option too much. Anyway, I scored interpersonal highest, then linguistic. Two of my lower scores: kinesthetic and visual should actually be much higher.
ReplyDeleteI am a highly visual learner--however, I do not visualize things well in my head--things need to be written down for me to remember them. I am linguistic--but again, if they are written it is easier for me. And I definitely learn by doing--although my muscle memory is awful--so I don't like dancing or sports.
Interesting quiz all the same!

I am a Naturalistic Learner, this makes sense since I have 3 cats (Bob, Calie and Jynx)and 1 dog 9 (Lady)and plant a garden every year, Logical-Mathematical Learner makes sense also since I am the bookkeeper.

So I guess I was the only one who had trouble finding the page that explained what these categories meant. I'm sure that says something about my learning style.
ReplyDeleteWe did a similar, simpler evaluation at a recent PaLA conference. There was only one question: when you need to learn a new computer function, what works best: reading the manual, having it explained by someone else or figuring it out yourself. Responses broke us down into visual, aural and kinesthetic learners. Having something explained by a person works best for me, which was a surprise. I'd have guessed that reading was the best choice. Live and learn, one way or another. (Let this serve as fair warning--I may be calling on my friends for explanations.)

This is great. I am so excited about 23 things n@. I found out that I am an Interpersonal/Logical-Mathematical learner with Musical coming in a close third. This makes sense because I am a problem solver as my coworkers and friends will confirm.
ReplyDeleteKim-- Northland
I find it so interesting how so many people posting before me are also Naturalistic Learners - we should definitely take this training outside! And, my colleagues here at ACLA, would be shocked that I didn't score high on the musical section with all the Wiggles singing I do.
ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone intended for this exercise to be so deep, but I actually just gained a lot of clarity from that quiz! That along with the Resiliency slideshow gave me a lot of understanding about my current situation and how to best deal with it.
ReplyDeleteYAY for 23 things n'@!

So I took the quiz yesterday and printed my results so I could look them over and I lost them. (I think I needed the back for scrap paper) I know I was a naturalistic learner, which didn't surprise me much - I worked as a Park Ranger before I became a librarian. When I took the quiz for the second time I got totally different answers. This time it told me I am a verbal-linguistic learner, which isn't true at all. Maybe it just depends on the mood you are in when taking the quiz? I had fun doing it though!
ReplyDeleteDanielle, CLP-Brookline
My test scores showed that I am a interpersonal & intrapersonal person. I love to learn new things and very open minded. Then it showed that I'm Logical-mathemtical and verbal-linguistic never hestitant to ask questions to learn more. I'm looking forward in learning and experiencing new things from this site.
ReplyDeleteShannon/Wilkinsburg
I really enjoyed the quiz. I learned that I'm very musical--not surprising since I played flute for 8 years & listen to music every day!
ReplyDeleteThis is a much different exercise than what I envisioned. Didn't realize results would be so public!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the quiz I am a naturalistic learner followed closely by an intrapersonal and interpersonal learner. When I have taken similar quizes in the past I've been identified as an interpersonal learner...so this quiz had some new information for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited about the "23 things" series. I learn much better by hands on experience rather than listening to a lecture or reading an article. In addition, I'm not as familiar with new technology as I'd like to be. Thanks for offering this program.
I scored high in the naturalistic and interpersonal areas. I know about interpersonal but I'll have to investigate the naturalistic area.
ReplyDeleteI am glad for this opportunity to become more familiar with developing technologies.
I learned that I have to work on being more resilient.
ReplyDeleteI was a mix of stuff. I find that I learn best by doing things. I didn't really see that as an option by itself, but intrapersonal seems about right, and I did score highest there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for offering this opportunity. Blogs have always seemed a little silly to me. This will be a good way to learn about all the new ways to communicate while not having to stray too far from my comfort zone!
ReplyDeleteI scored equally high on Naturalistic and Logical. At first this seemed contradictory, but it really is a good fit for me and how I best learn.

I'm an interpersonal and intrapersonal learner, also verbal-linguistic. It came as a surprise to me one day when I noticed that I like learning by listening and talking instead of by reading. This is why I haven't made the effort to blog so far. While the comments may be interesting on the surface, I really don't have time to read 70+ (or 280+) comments. We'll see... not convinced yet, but still willing to try it.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to be a person who continues to learn and try new things, no matter what age I'm lucky enough to reach. 23 Things ought to help me keep that promise to myself. I can't wait to see what's in store for me.

I'm Peter a part timer at Bayne Memorial in Bellevue PA. I tried to do this at work, but since I work the front desk mostly, I decided to do this from home. A co worker and I did give it a go at work. It's no suprise I tested high range in the verbal linguistic, but I also feel I learn best with hands on and repetition.
ReplyDeleteIn a previous life worked for 35 years as a rehabilitation counselor and work/life was an on going learning experience, so I really like to have ongoing training. Funding is obviously in crisis mode and if you ain't resilient you ain't gonna survive, so we gotta team up and person up and be the change.I liked this observation from the edutopia summary of verbal linguistic, since I dibbble dabble as a poet."The poet has been described as the epitome of verbal-linguistic intelligence."
Thanks to the team for your efforts in putting this together, and as my son's little coach used to say, "Now go out there, and HAVE FUN !!!

I was almost 100% verbal-linguistic, not a surprise, but came in next under Interpersonal, musical, and body-kinesthetic (in the 50-60 range). It's sort of good to see where my strengths are--explains why it's easier to do some tasks and pulling teeth to do others.

They need to come up with a special quiz just for parents. Our free time is spent a lot differently than normal people's. How much time do you spend...
ReplyDeleteInstead of "Getting lost in a good book": Getting out of reading Wacky Wednesday for the 500th time.
Instead of "Doing crafts": Doing anything with anything except pipe cleaners and googly eyes.
Instead of "Trying to solve mysteries": How did that paint-colored footprint get on the shower curtain?
Instead of "Writing a journal": Making plans to organize and/or print out all those photos.
Instead of "Reflecting on your life": Obsessing over your kid.
Instead of "Playing sports": Fishing the wiffle ball out of the neighbor's pool. Again.
Instead of "Yearning to spend time with nature": Yearning to watch a 90-minute DVD the whole way through.
That kind of quiz.
Thanks for the space!

ReplyDeleteNot surprising that after taking the quiz, I scored a 100% in the Interpersonal style. I would hope so since my job requires standing up in the front of a room of people on a regular basis! Verbal-Linguistic and Naturalistic tied for second. Logical-Mathematical as a strong first, followed by Interpersonal, then Verbal-Linguistic. Verbal-linguistic and interpersonal scores were my highest in the quiz so my career choices - English teacher and school librarian - were definitely the right ones and brought me much pleasure. Good morning all - lots of good posts and I've had more than a few great aha moments and chuckles. I do like the idea in an early post of giving this quiz to patrons - would be mighty interesting and kind of 1984ish. I also like the idea of a quiz geared to parents, and it would be nice to have one geared to pet owners. Now those would get us out of the valley of chaos!
ReplyDeleteHi All.
ReplyDeleteI've been tracking the comments for the CE hours. There are a number of uncredited comments. If you forgot to add your name or library to the comment field just copy and paste the comment into an email. Add your name and library and send it to me at hughesr@carnegielibrary.org.
Naturalistic and Verbal-Linguistic tied for the top, with Musical and Interpersonal close behind -- and Bodily-Kinesthetic way at the bottom. No surprises there! I'm glad there are a variety of ways to learn and that I can relate to several, but I wish I had a stronger to tie to things like "Logical-Mathematic." I find that, as important as knowing your own learning style, is knowing that of the people you work with.

I've always been a "lurker" on listservs, message boards and now blogs but feel that I HAVE to make a comment for those ce credits. ;) I enjoyed the quiz -verbal-linguistic- so I must have learned something "lurking" all those years.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the rest of 23 things. Thanks!

I am a visual learner though my quiz results did not quite reflect that. Barbara USC
ReplyDeleteThis quiz was interesting! I am mostly an intrapersonal learner, which was really no surprise! Verbal-linguistic and naturalistic tied for second place. Very edifying.
ReplyDeleteI've always been lousy at spatial things; I bump into them all the time.
ReplyDeleteTakes awhile to find all the hidden links.

The quiz on learning style confirmed what the Meyers Briggs revealed about my personality. High in interpersonal and verbal linguistic, both traits associated with the old-fashioned stereotypes of a librarian.

The quiz substantiated what I already knew. Learning is not monolithic.
ReplyDeleteMarc/Wilkinsburg
That was a fun quiz. Thanks for a great first week of 23 Things n'@~!

This doesn't sound at all like me. Who would ever think that I would be high in the Logical-Mathmatic. I have trouble adding! Naturalistic was at the top- I do love the nature and the outdoors- so that wasn't too much of a surprise. It was an interesting test.
ReplyDeleteNo surprises on the quiz. I'm looking forward to this program.
ReplyDeleteNaturalistic - Intrapersonal - Visual - Logical -- okay, I see me. I have taken many of these quizzes during my 47 yrs. of working -41 at the same company, 6 at the Library. Always find out I should be in another profession - farmer, pilot (hate flying) teacher ..don't think so. Still fun to take, and am also looking forward to the rest of the 23 things. Keep on learning! Millie/Andrew Bayne.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't surprised by the findings...high in verbal/ linguistic, followed equally by intrapersonal and interpersonal. Really low on mathematical (just ask anyone...including my accountant!)
ReplyDeleteFun to do and I am looking forward to this "non-threatening" way of learning more! Thanks!
Logical-Matematical was my highest score followed by Intrapersonal and Musical. It looks like a majority of you are verbal-linguistic. How did I end up here?

I can understand why I love cataloging -- 100 in the logical-mathematical. Yet, I can't do math, except to add digets to the base dewey number. Yep, it all makes sense ... Now, how can I get my cataloging out to the beach or the forest for my naturalistic side.
ReplyDeleteFun, can't wait for the next set of goodies.

By a landslide I am a Logical/Mathematical learner. As someone who doesn't even balance their checkbook, this came as a bit of a surprise. I assumed that the huge amount of reading I do, combined with a BA in Writing would make me a Verbal/Linguinstic learning. I do love a good Excel Spreadsheet though...
ReplyDeleteMy "magic fingers" failed me. Please read diget as digit. Where is spellcheck when I need it????
ReplyDeleteMary Jean, it would be a boring world if we all functioned the same way! I know the logical/mathematical folks @ my library definitely help keep me grounded.
ReplyDeleteKaren made a good point, above, that it's really good to know what styles your co-workers have - cuts way down on misunderstandings during meetings, projects, etc.

It was very interesting to find out that I was Naturalistic (although I do like nature.) What I really found odd is that I am also Logical-Mathmatic and Verbal-Linguistic.

My highest score of 67 was in the learning style of Naturalistic. I enjoy being outside and I absolutely love animals. I can see why that was my highest. Next highest score was Interpersonal with a 63. I really enjoy taking quizes of all kinds and I think this program will be a great success.

I scored highest in Logical/Mathematical. I can't wait to share this with my son who always turns to his engineer father for help with calculus homework! Actually, I am quite logical, but calculus- I don't think so.

This quiz was fun! Hello to everyone out in 23 Things n'@ land!
ReplyDeleteI was vaguely aware of the existence of different learning styles. The quiz was interesting. I found myself, however, debating on how to answer some of the questions. The "not much but I would really like to be" voice surfaced for quite a few of the items. Maybe I need to listen a bit more to that voice.

ReplyDeleteI love working at the library, but it appears from this test I scored highest in the naturalistic learning department,so I should either be out in the forest or at home with my dog.
From this first lesson, I got "blogged" down in going to all the different websites.
The slide show went too fast for me to read the slides, but, other than that, a good introduction to this process.
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never! Funny that Visual-Spatial, Logical-Mathematical and Verbal-Linguistic are all about equat. Guess that makes me a well-rounded individual!
ReplyDeleteNaomi, Main Reference
I scored highest in the Verbal-Linguistic and Intrapersonal categories. No surprises there, since I enjoy talking to people and reading. Where is the category for people who are already behind in completing their assignments!!
ReplyDeleteMary Bethel Park
Glad we still have a chance to post for Week 1! :) I scored high on Musical and Intrapersonal, with the highest score (100%!) showing up for Verbal-Linguistic. No surprises there; I was an English major. It was interesting that the test confirmed some "tricks" I remember from studying in college and library school -- that, for instance, I'm much better off working and learning while music is playing than otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the PowerPoint and the Word doc sheet -- the Albert Einstein quote is something to think about.
Off to a good start!
The quiz was interesting. I'm glad for the slow and easy part in these training sessions as I'm trying to keep up with the younger generation.

As a recent college graduate, I have taken several of these tests throughout the years in many different capacities ("What Color is your Crown," "What Does Your Hair Color Say About Your Learning Style," etc.). I definitely feel like they are an excellent way to get a feel for what kind of person you are and how you interact with others, whether they are like you or the complete opposite. In this particular quiz, I was found to be pretty much what I am (or at least I think I am, ha ha), so I definitely think it's a great way to start off the 23 Things!

I that I am a visual learner but the quiz indicated that I am a Naturalistic learner. hmm, I do like digging in my garden and I worked for many years in the science field before going to school for computers.

I scored the highest in naturalistic and intrapersonal - I guess I belong in the outdoor library that caters to dogs! Mary, I'm right behind you in the category for people who are already behind in completing their assignments! What's that say about Bethel?
ReplyDeleteMichele Bethel Park
I'm a naturalistic learner - not surprising. I love colors, patterns, open space. Observing & taking things one step at a time seems to work for me best.
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never. My learning style is primarily Logical/Mathematical.

Though it generated flashbacks of the "Kuder Preference Test" I took in high school, I enjoyed taking the quiz and re-visiting thoughts on my learning style. It hasn't changed much in all these years! As I'm dealing with kids at the library, I try to be sensitive to the fact that differences in learning style are very real!

Thank you for offering this program. I think it will be very fun to learn new things, and in turn, be able to help our patrons should they have any questions. I took the quiz and found my learning style to be "Naturalistic" and "Verbal-Linguistic" tied at 58 with "Intrapersonal" and "Logical-Mathematical" coming in second at 50. I'm a little surprised by the "Naturalistic" as I don't feel I'm very scientific, but do agree with all of the others. I look forward to the coming weeks!

I created my blog for Week #2. It is http://purpletreeponderings.blogspot.com/. I thought it was an easy process to create the blog and make a post. Fun to read your comments. I enjoyed the points on resiliency in the slides and now have the 'labels' for my unsurprising learning style; naturalistic, interpersonal and verbal-linguistic ranked in the top three.
ReplyDeleteWow I'm really doin' good. I've gone back in time and added this comment- looking forward to the future.
ReplyDeleteToo bad procrastinator was not one of the choices. I had a three way tie with interpersonal, nautralist and verbal linguistic, with mathematical-logical very close behind. I like to think at this stage of my life I have learned that there is more than one way to approach a problem. I feel this test shows that to be true.....

It's great to have the opportunity to learn new things, and I hope to be able to use them to help our patrons. After taking the quiz I found that my highest score for learning style was Logical-Mathematical at 75 which I agree with. One of lowest scores was Visual Spacial at 25 which I don't agree with. I just don't like crafts, and I said so.
ReplyDeleteJean, Shaler Library
I'm a little late starting the 23 Things but so far it seems like a great thing--thanks for the opportunity to share in this. I just now took the quiz and found I'm a Verbal-Linguistic learner and I scored very low on Visual Spatial which makes sense because anyone who knows me knows that I cannot color, draw, hammer, knit etc. etc. I'm really looking forward to the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteBarb, CLP-Mt.Washington
The quiz was interesting. My results varied over five areas, verbal-linguistic being the highest and interpersonal a close second. I am apprehensive about completing 23 things and more. May need assistance, which of course my fellow co-workers will always encourage me.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how there are so many/varies ways to divide up learning styles tests. Re-watched the video recommended on lifelong learning. Always have been an eager supporter of that at home as well as work.
ReplyDeleteComments on my results: My learning styles results: Interpersonal 88, Naturalistic 83, Verbal-linguistic 75, Musical 69. My weakest was no surprise, visual spatial only 8 percent.
I recognized my preference for interpersonal and verbal-linguistic styles. Maybe my naturalistic is somehow linked to my preference for nonfiction and for hands-on? I do love animals, but wasn't sure how that fit into learning styles per se..
Problem noted – Although my key learning style is identified as interpersonal, and I do love group sharing, learn by asking questions, prefer mentor/etc... HOWEVER, I am NOT “understanding and in tune with the people around you and their motives, emotions, perspectives, and moods.” – I try and would like to be, but somehow I do NOT, and have never, read body language well, and /or always understand when people try to tell me things. I appreciate it when people talk to me directly, candidly. I strongly prefer open, but sympathetic, conversations. These can take time when I am trying to understand or to convey info-- as I rely heavily on verbal-- and generally am more interested in details/intensity into a subject/topic, etc. than most people are willing to engage in or to take time for. I am a poor mind/body language reader, and cannot see behind literal words people tell me many times.
